FAQ
Questions, answered.
The things people ask before booking a retreat alone. Anything missing, ask a person.
Is there a single supplement?
No. Every price on Sola includes a room of your own. We think pricing solo travellers as half of a missing couple is the oldest bad habit in travel, so we simply don't do it.
I've never travelled alone. Is a retreat a good first trip?
It's the easiest first solo trip there is. Transfers are arranged, a host knows your name, meals are taken care of, and around 40% of retreat guests arrive alone, so you'll be in good company from the first dinner. Our Portugal women's week is designed specifically for first-timers.
Will I be forced to socialise?
Never. The Solo Standard means a table you can join, or not. Communal meals, circles and group outings are always optional, and nobody comments either way.
How do you vet retreats and hosts?
Seven checks before anything goes live: a live video call with the named host, proof of liability insurance and operating licence, real photos of real rooms, honest single-room pricing, optional communal meals, a 24/7 emergency contact, and honest availability. Marketplace partners pass the same checks.
Is it safe to travel alone on your routes?
Safety is designed in rather than bolted on: vetted licensed transfer drivers, a 24/7 local contact on every route, emergency plans checked for every venue, and a WhatsApp group that opens two weeks before departure. Many guests are solo women aged 35 to 55; our routes are built with them as the default traveller, not the exception.
What ages come on Sola retreats?
Most guests are 30 to 55, with the average around 42. Groups run from six to twelve people, and every one of them booked alone.
How does booking and payment work?
Request to book on any route page (no payment online). A person replies within one working day with dates and availability, then a $350 deposit holds your place and the balance is due 60 days before departure. A three-part payment plan is available for a 4% fee.
What if I need to cancel or change dates?
Every booking includes one free change of date. Cancellation terms are stated per departure before you pay anything; deposits transfer to a future departure if you cancel more than 60 days out.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, it's a condition of travel and we verify it at final payment. Any policy covering medical care and trip interruption works; we'll point you to suitable options when you book.
Can you handle dietary requirements?
Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergies are handled on every route; tell us at booking and the kitchen adjusts. Each route page's food section explains what the local kitchen does best.
I run retreats. How do I list on the marketplace?
Apply at the List your retreat page. Listing is free, vetting is one video call, and you pay 12% only on bookings we send. The first ten founding hosts pay no commission for six months.
Ready when you are. Eight routes, single rooms included, groups of six to twelve.
