The Solo Retreat Price Benchmark 2026
A well-run retreat with a private room included costs between $150 and $650 per person per day depending on the region. Thailand and Morocco sit at $150–280, Bali at $200–380, Portugal at $250–400, Greece and Costa Rica at $350–550. Below roughly $130 a day, something has been removed — usually the private room.
Retreat pricing is the least transparent part of the travel industry. Identical-looking weeks in the same town can differ threefold, and almost nobody publishes what a fair price looks like. So we published ours. These are the bands we hold our own routes and every partner listing to, and they are free to quote, cite and reproduce.
$150–650
per person per day, private room included
The full range across the eight regions we cover. Nearly all of the gap between the cheapest and dearest is staff cost and land cost, not the quality of the retreat.
$130
per day, below which something is being cut
In order of likelihood: the private room becomes a shared dorm, three meals become one, the group grows past sixteen, or teachers work unpaid in exchange for board.
30–60%
typical single supplement, where one is charged
On a $2,000 week that is $600 to $1,200 extra for a room of your own. It is the most common hidden cost in retreat pricing, and the reason we do not charge one.
20–35%
saved by moving to shoulder season
Same venue, same teacher, same itinerary, one to three weeks either side of peak. The largest single saving available to anyone with flexible dates.

Notes on each region
- South and Southeast Asia $150–280/day
- Widest quality spread of any region here. The bottom of the band is genuinely good value; below it, room quality falls away quickly.
- North Africa and the Levant $150–280/day
- Best total-trip value from Europe: low per-day cost combined with short, cheap flights.
- Indonesia $200–380/day
- Highest density of listings anywhere. Ubud and Canggu price very differently for a near-identical week.
- Iberia $250–400/day
- Fastest-growing market we track. Alentejo quintas sit at the bottom of the band, Mallorca fincas at the top.
- Mexico and Central America $250–400/day
- Tulum sits above this band and rarely justifies it. Oaxaca and Valle de Bravo sit inside it.
- Mediterranean Europe $350–550/day
- Island logistics are a genuine cost rather than a markup. Shoulder season saves meaningfully for better weather.
- Costa Rica and Panama $350–550/day
- Nicoya coast land prices drive the band. The Caribbean side runs considerably lower.
- High-cost Anglophone $350–650/day
- Weekend formats dominate, which distorts per-trip comparisons. Always compare per day here.
How these bands were set, and what they are not
What this is. A published benchmark built from the pricing work behind our own routes, the quotes we receive from venues and hosts when we cost a week, and the advertised prices we read across operator sites and regional directories in the eight regions we cover. It is the number we use ourselves when deciding whether a host's price is fair.
What this is not. It is not a formal statistical survey. We have not run a randomised sample, and we are not publishing medians, percentiles or a sample size, because we do not have figures of that kind and inventing them would make this page more quotable and less true. Treat the bands as an informed, transparent, interested practitioner's benchmark — which is exactly what they are.
How prices are normalised. Every figure is per person, per day, on a private-room basis. Where an operator advertises a shared-room price plus a single supplement, the supplement is added before the per-day figure is worked out — so the band reflects what a solo traveller actually pays, not the headline number.
Limitations. These are advertised prices, not transacted prices, so real discounting is invisible. Coverage is uneven: we know Portugal, Bali and Greece far better than we know Australia. Prices move with exchange rates and fuel costs, so a band more than a year old should be treated as indicative rather than current.
Conflict of interest. Sola sells retreats, and our own routes sit inside these bands, which is convenient for us. Read the benchmark as coming from an interested party who has shown their reasoning. The Price Checker runs on exactly these numbers and will tell you a Sola retreat is expensive if it is.
