Solo retreats in Thailand
Thailand is where a modest budget still buys a genuinely good week. The trick is the geography: Koh Phangan has two personalities that never meet, and the quiet north around Srithanu runs on meditation timetables and 9pm bedtimes, nowhere near the full-moon piers. Honest pricing here is about $150 to $280 a day.

The route we run
Practical notes
Getting there
Fly to Koh Samui (USM), then a 30-minute ferry; or Surat Thani (URT) plus a 2.5-hour ferry for a cheaper route. Pickup from Thong Sala pier is included.
Worth your free time
- Koh Ma sandbar. Walk to an island at low tide; best snorkelling on Phangan.
- Zen Beach. Srithanu's sunset gathering point; drums optional.
- Wat Phu Khao Noi. The island's oldest temple, usually empty.
- Bottle Beach. Reachable by boat or a sweaty jungle hike; worth either.
Eat this
- Night market at Thong Sala. Pad thai, mango sticky rice and grilled everything for pocket change.
- Southern Thai curries. Hotter than the tourist menus admit; ask for 'Thai spicy' only once.
- Coconut everything. The island grew coconuts before tourists; the smoothies show it.
Good to know
- 30-day visa exemption for most nationalities on arrival.
- Scooters are the local transport; only ride if you already ride, and always helmeted.
- Cash still rules on the island; ATMs cluster in Thong Sala.
- Full moon week changes the island's mood; our dates avoid it.
Questions people ask
Is a cheap Thailand retreat a red flag?
Not automatically. Costs genuinely are lower here, so $150 to $180 per day can be excellent. What matters is what is excluded: check the room is private, the instructors are certified, and transfers are with licensed operators.
Will I end up at a party island?
Only if you book the wrong side. Our week is on the quiet north coast; the full-moon crowd is on the southeast and our dates deliberately avoid that week.
Do I have to do the detox menu?
No. It runs quietly alongside the normal kitchen and nobody comments either way. There is excellent pad thai for those who want it.
