Surf retreats for solo travellers

Surf camps are full of solo travellers, which makes them socially easy and technically risky. One number predicts whether you improve: students per coach. At four to one you get corrections; at eight to one you get a queue and a sore shoulder. Both our surf routes cap coaching and include board hire.

Questions people ask

Can I book a surf retreat as a total beginner?

Yes, if the break is right. Nosara and Taghazout both have forgiving beginner sections. Ask what the bottom is: sand forgives mistakes, reef does not.

What if I get tired or injured mid-week?

Both routes run a parallel yoga track, so you can sit out sessions without sitting out the week. That flexibility is the point of a small group.

Is surfing alone as an older beginner awkward?

Less than you think. Our groups skew 30 to 55 and everyone arrived alone, so the water is full of people learning rather than performing.
